Description
Originally based on the F430 Challenge, the F430 GT3 is a specialized racing car designed for the FIA GT3 European Championship, but also used in other national GT championships. It is mechanically similar to the F430 Challenge, yet has some better developed aerodynamics, including large air exhaust vents in the hood. Having a full 4.3 L engine the car is more powerful than the GT2 counterpart, however the GT3 rules require that the car has a weight/power ratio of about 2.6 kg/hp, hence the car has a minimum weight above 1200 kg (2646 lb) in race trim (driver and fuel excluded).[citation needed] Considering the less developed aerodynamics, and about 10% of extra weight, the car is clearly slower than the GT2 version; for example in the 2007 Spa 24h race, in which both models were entered, the GT3 spec vehicle was about 8 seconds slower in its best qualification lap times than the GT2 spec vehicle .Ferrari only sells the F430 Challenge and F430GTC, a real race car made with partner Michelotto Automobile. Other GT2 and GT3's are derivative of either Challenge or GTC. F430 GTC: Ferrari has a great tradition in Gran Turismo competitions through official participation with its drivers, especially during the 50s and 60s, and through the engagement of numerous clients, winning with the cars from the Prancing Horse on tracks and roads all over the world. Taking part in Gran Turismo competitions has a double function for Ferrari. On the one hand there is the goal of using racing as the environment to develop new solutions for the serial production, as it happens in Formula One; on the other hand there is the desire to nourish the legend of a brand, which became universally known also due to its clients’ successes in motor sports. Today the Corse Clienti Department provides the private teams with the 430 GT2, developed in collaboration with Michelotto Automobile, one of the most successful cars in the history of its category, proved in the winners’ list: in the last year success appeared in the FIA GT Championships thanks to the AF Corse Team and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Risi Competizione Team’s success, but also numerous victories in other international (LMS, GT Open) and national (Italy, Spain) championships. The car for the 2009 season sports several updates, especially in the sections of aerodynamics and electronics, to approach the numerous challenges ahead. The 2006 season brought the debut of the stunning Ferrari F430 GTC which was developed by the Corse Clienti department in Maranello in collaboration with Michelotto Automobile. Derived from the excellent F430 road-going berlinetta, the car continues has dominated its category since its debut. Its major wins have included the FIA GT2 Manufacturers' Cup and Drivers' titles in both 2006 and 2007, the Drivers' title again in 2008 in the same championship, the Manufacturers' title in the American Le Mans GT2 Series in 2007, and the GT category in the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hour Race.
