Description
HEMI powered Mopars are in a whole different league than most collector cars. Like Fords Shelby Mustangs and Pontiacs Super Duty Trans Ams, they are considered the ultimate factory muscle machines by their respective followers. Naturally, all that demand creates big time exclusivity, and with investment grade Mopars, those four little letters usually add a 40 to 50 percent premium to the price of a restored car. Luckily, we sometimes find 100% correct Hemi powered Mopars which provide virtually the same appeal as a numbers matching car without the inflated price. Just last week we sold a correct Hemi powered 1968 Plymouth GTX for a cool $90K. But heres the catch: it sold in just TWELVE hours flat! So, if you want this correct, Hemi powered 68 Coronet that you can actually drive and enjoy instead of sticking in a bubble and wishing it was 1968 again, pick up the phone now!

A lot of shops get Chryslers PP1 Monotone Red paint just a tad off, but the guys who sprayed this 68 Coronet nailed it perfectly. Not circus show bright or Farmall flat, it is indeed as even and smooth as its name implies with a pigment that is just bright enough to double as a tough weekend strip warrior and a well-mannered street car. The restoration began with a clean, solid original car that was in surprisingly good shape, and a thorough examination of the body shows that the workmanship is first rate all the way through. Naturally, panel gaps are very good and panel alignment is excellent, laying the foundation for moving parts which open and close with precision and echo nice, solid sounds. At the back of the car, correct white bumble-bee sport stripe decals have been applied around the tail with expert alignment which, when combined with the perfect reflections in the body panels, provides visual proof that the bodywork is exceptionally well done.
The Coronets were a little plainer than their Charger siblings, but a lot of people like that contrast and dig their super clean looks. At the front of the car, four exposed headlights are nestled into a correct blacked-out and stainless trimmed R/T grille. Below that grille, a straight and heavy chrome bumper houses integrated round parking lights; and above that grille, an excellent looking contoured hood features streamlined stainless accents. Behind the hood, a correctly tinted windshield and correct clear side and rear glass is surrounded by pristine stainless trim and bordered by new chrome door handles and a correct chrome drivers side mirror. On the sides of the car, Dodges trademark modernist panels are accented by showroom fresh round marker lights, well-maintained stainless rocker skirts and like-new stainless wheel well trim. Just behind the front tires, bold, red inlayed R/T emblems sit above satin finished Hemi emblems; and on the passengers side front fender, a traditional gold Chrysler pentastar lets sidewalk dwellers know exactly what theyre looking at. At the back of the car, sinister Coronet exclusive taillights are integrated into a ribbed tail panel thats virtually impossible to find intact today, and a second large and in charge chrome bumper hangs under a correct red R/T emblem and pristine black inlayed Dodge script.
Under this hot Mopars sculpted hood, youll find a Mopar Performance 426 Hemi crate engine that produces 425 horsepower and 490 lb./ft. of torque. Fully rebuilt and expertly detailed, this sweet big block combines the best attributes of the original 426 design with a few modern performance upgrades to deliver unbeatable performance. At the top of the motor, two coated Edelbrock four barrel carburetors split a correctly decaled stainless air cleaner and a correct Hemi Orange intake. At the front of that intake, an MSD billet distributor (the cars original distributor is also included with the sale) sends fire through black Taylor plug wires that snake around MSD chrome valve covers and correct cast iron exhaust manifolds. At the front of the block, an MSD chrome timing cover sits behind fresh V-belts, fresh radiator hoses and a correct 26 inch Mopar radiator. Aesthetically, this Coronets engine bay is extremely well finished, with awesome paint and correct components present throughout. Chrysler restorers have raised the restoration of engine compartments to the level of art; and the correct colors and materials used throughout this one will win awards at the highest levels.
Behind that killer Hemi engine youll find a correct A727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission thats been beefed up with a 2800 stall. Just a driveshaft away from that transmission is a correct Dana 60 Posi-traction rear end with excellent 3.54 gears. Yes, the floors are over-restored and have been painted to match the body, but you cant argue with how good it looks, and imagine the comments from your friends as you wheel up in your new Coronet and instruct them to have a look underneath. The correct torsion bar front and leaf spring rear suspension presents as new from its brake lines and hoses, to its shocks and tie rods; and the cars correct power front disc and power rear drum brakes work like a charm. At the center of the floorpans, a new mandrel bent true dual exhaust sends spent gases from an H-pipe crossover through great sounding dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers to rear mounted stainless steel tips which hang at each side of a new stainless gas tank. At the corners, familiar chrome Magnum 500 wheels wear sticky 225/70 BF Goodrich Silvertown red wall radials.
The interior has been restored to the same brilliant standards as the rest of the car and displays a great looking correct red and black color combination. All the soft parts, including the door panels, carpets, dash pad, headliner, and seat covers are brand new and correct in every way, right down to the Coronet R/T emblems. The gauges have all been restored with sharply detailed faces, including the correct optional tic-toc-tachometer, and a correct black center console holds a correct chrome shifter for the 3-speed automatic transmission ...For more information please call the seller.
