Description
Still widely regarded as one of the best sedans ever built, the Mercedes-Benz 600 marked the ascendancy of the Stuttgart marque back to the pinnacle of luxury, performance and prestige just twenty years after the end of World War II. The 600 had everything that an increasingly wealthy upper class could want, including performance with 300 horsepower and 434 lb-ft torque from the 6.3 liter overhead camshaft fuel injected light alloy V-8 engine. A comfortable yet competent ride was assured with fully independent suspension on load-compensating air springs. There were disc brakes all around, central door locks, power steering and two separate climate control systems. Presented in subtle silver-grey with black leather upholstery, this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 600 Sedan may be one of the best of its type. It is lavishly equipped with Behr air conditioning, a Becker Grand Prix radio with supplemental control panel behind the passengers seat, a refrigerated drinks compartment with glasses and decanter between the rear seats, pulldown quarter windows privacy shades and a sunroof. Both the front and rear seats are power adjustable, the ultimate in comfort and individual specification. The odometer shows 70,731 miles which every indication on the car supports as the real miles from new. The paint, chrome and engine compartment are sharp. The interior wood trim is exquisite. The interior leather is to all appearances original and magnificently preserved. Documentation includes the service and warranty book, owners manual, maintenance record, Becker stereo instructions, warranty tags and even the seat belt operating instructions. A single older repaint to high standards is the only deviation from original condition and it drives superbly, including the load compensating air suspension which works as designed. There is no more prestigious vehicle on the road than this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 600. Not a Maybach, not a Phantom, not a Bentley. This Mercedes-Benz 600 is the luxury automobile which all others strive to match.
