Description
When the Silver Shadow debuted in 1965 it was by far in a way Rolls-Royce's most significant advancement in decades. The company's first vehicle to use a unitary construction model, the Silver Shadow was far more sleek and aerodynamic than predecessors such as the Ghost. Fitted with drastically different bumpers/fenders, chrome trim, and other exterior features to suit the new body, the Silver Shadow set the stage for all RR sedans to follow. Technologically, the vehicle was just as much of a leap forward. For the first time, nearly every feature of the vehicle was electrically-operated, including gear change, fuel-filler cap, aerial, windows, seats, heat, and air conditioning. The rather large V8 (initially 6.25 Litres, increased to 6.75 Litres in 1970) was a proven success adjusted for reduced emissions and increased power. Along with a new hydraulic system operated from the camshaft, powered disc brakes, and a self-leveling independent suspenssion, the Silver Shadow's engine/drivetrain made for an infinitely more responsive ride than anything before it. Our particular Silver Shadow - finished in Sand over Mason's Black (one of few vehicles with a two-tone scheme) and featuring the beautiful chrome bumpers removed in '74 due to U.S. regulations - came from a local collector whom we have done a great deal of business with over the years. It has been stored indoors its entire life and in climate-controlled environments for the past several decades. As a result, the exterior is entirely original and appears as if it were brand new. It goes almost without saying that the Silver Shadow was outfitted with nearly every luxury available at the time, including an AM/FM radio, 8-Track, all-electric interior, folding picnic tables in the rear, walnut facia and cabin trim throughout, etc. With its Parchment leather, black piping, and flawless trim/dash, the interior is in perfect working order and just as beautiful and original as the exterior. A wonderful addition to any garage and extremely versatile, this vehicle is not only a collector's piece, but a would-be regular driver, limousine, etc.
